For audiences arriving in the West End there has been one type of show that has been growing in numbers over the years and for good reason – theatregoers can’t get enough of them. It takes the form of the jukebox musical, a show that features a memorable story and songs plucked from the back catalogues of some famous bands. In some cases these are original stories with the music of one band (such as “We Will Rock You” and Queen) and in others a fun ride with various different bands contributing work (such as “Dreamboats and Petticoats”).
The latest show at the Shaftesbury Theatre in the West End falls into the latter category, but it does not showcase any kind of music; it instead celebrates 80s glam rock with a host of songs that celebrate the popular style and a story to amplify them. The plot focuses on Sherrie and Drew, the former being a small town girl and the latter an LA rocker, as the pair wind up bonding and embarking on a whirlwind romance thanks to their mutual love for the music style. So expect songs such as “Wanted Dead or Alive”, “We Build This City” and more to make high profile appearances as part of the proceedings.
There’s also a great cast to boast from the show, with Justin Lee Collins, Shayne Ward, Amy Pemberton, Oliver Tompsett and Simon Lipkin all taking on important roles.
It has everything anyone could want from a musical and with a movie version currently in production as well it is likely to be a high profile event and on that will entertain those with theatre tickets from Tuesday 27th September 2011 (with previews from Wednesday 31st August 2011).
