Synopsis

An Australian story that has captured the imaginations of West End audiences, Priscilla Queen of the Desert appears at the Palace Theatre in London. It is a story that is likely to leave a smile on the faces of West End audiences and showcase the talents of director Simon Phillips and writers Stephen Elliot and Allan Scott.

Priscilla Queen of the Desert is a musical adventure that started out at the Sydney’s Lyric Theatre in 2006, where Tony Sheldon took on the role of Bernadette (reprising it for the London production) and great acclaim managed to help it find a large fanbase. It is based on the 1994 movie “The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert”, which starred Terence Stamp, Hugo Weaving and Guy Pearce in lead roles - a story that was perfect for the West End.

The story of Priscilla Queen of the Desert introduces us to a team of performers who regularly entertain the crowds in their hometown of Sydney. Drag queen Tick (Donovan), Bernadette (Sheldon) and Adam (Oliver Thornton) are committed to their show and will do anything to keep it alive, so they decide to introduce it to new audiences and perform at a casino in Alice Springs. This will take them right into the middle of the Australian outback and to get there they are going to need a helping hand. This takes the form of Priscilla – a tatty old bus that will be the heart of their adventure, as their journey through the outback sees them finds love and friendship, whilst their wildest dreams are met and outmatched. It is a compelling adventure that is sure to leave a lasting impression, whilst classic disco songs make up the musical numbers of this huge hit.

Songs to be enjoyed during the course of the show include “I Will Survive”, “I Love The Nightlife”, “Don’t Leave Me This Way”, “Finally”, “Downtown”, “Shake Your Groove Thing”, “What’s Love Got To Do With It?”, “Venus”, “I’ve Never Been To Me” and “Colour My World”. These help to amplify the show to new levels as Priscilla Queen of the Desert rides to its exciting conclusion.

The show is also well known for featuring an outrageous array of costumes, with 500 different outfits in total. It is sure to keep the story fresh and exciting and maintain the impact of the movie in 1994 – a production that is regarded as a ‘camp classic’ in the gay community.
