Synopsis

One of the big success stories of recent years, Matilda The Musical runs strong at the Cambridge Theatre, where audiences continue to relish in the story from Roald Dahl, the music of Tim Minchin and the direction of Matthew Warchus.

When Matilda the Musical opened at the Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon as the latest flagship production of the Royal Shakespeare Company it already had a lot going for it. Not only was it based on the hit novel, it was also boasting the direction of an acclaimed helmer, plus music from one of the best known names in the comedy world at the time. But even with all of these factors in place, no-one could have guessed that it would earn such high praise and become popular enough to attract the attention of West End and Broadway producers.

But all of this happened and now London theatre audiences have the chance to witness this acclaimed show at the West End’s Cambridge Theatre, where it has been running since it transferred there in October 2011.

Matilda the Musical follows the plot of Roald Dahl’s book and focuses on Matilda, a girl with extraordinary intellect who uses her brain power to teach lessons to those doing bad things. She also manages to read the entire collection of books in the local library and as a result she is miles ahead of anyone else her age (or older for that matter!). Then when she arrives at school she is blessed with supernatural powers, which allow her to continue to teach lessons to those that deserve it.

Matilda The Musical continues to be a popular show and it entertains audiences at the West End’s Cambridge Theatre.
