Synopsis

Early in 2017 audiences at the Sheffield Crucible witnessed a new musical from Tom MacRae, Dan Gillespie Sells and Jonathan Butterell entitled Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.

That show was a success and now audiences in the West End will finally find out why everybody is talking about the 16 year old. John McCrea reprises his role from Sheffield as the titular Jamie, whilst Josie Walker plays his supportive mother Margaret.

The show explores this 16 year old as he grows up with a view of himself that might put him at odds with those around him. It takes its cues from a BBC Three documentary entitled Jamie: Drag Queen At 16 and has already resonated with audiences in the Northern English city.

Jonathan Butterell directs the production from a script by television writer Tom MacRae, whilst Dan Gillespie Sells provides the music. This team has already provided memorable material in Sheffield and now it will undoubtedly prove to be the perfect addition to the West End landscape.

This goes for the cast as well, any of whom make the journey to London from the earlier run. John McCrea has appeared at the Park Theatre whilst Josie Walker has appeared in productions at the National Theatre and the West End, where she played the role of Rosa in War Horse at the New London Theatre.

They appear alongside Daniel Anthony, Mina Anwar, Luke Baker, Courtney Bowman, Tamsin Carroll, James Gillian, Harriet Payne, Shiv Rabheru, Lucie Shorthouse and Kirstie Skivington.

Everybody’s Talking About Jamie opens at the Apollo Theatre in 2017.
