Synopsis

Note: Amber Riley steps down from the lead part of Effie White in November, with Marisha Wallace, Moya Angela, and Karen Mav sharing the role from Monday 20th November 2017.

Though the West End regularly welcomes some well known musicals that have already found a huge audience on Broadway, the hit early 1980s show Dreamgirls has so far eluded the capital. All of that changes from 2016 as the classic production, which celebrates the R&B music scene of the 1960s, finally makes its away to Theatreland with a run at the Savoy Theatre.

Expect a great story and some toe-tapping musical numbers as Amber Riley, best known for appearing in the American television show Glee, takes on the role of Effie White and belts out the popular, award-winning track I’m Telling You I’m Not Going.

She also brings to life an uplifting story as we are transported back to the 60s and follow the rise of the all-girl group The Dreams. The Chicago singers must navigate the tough music industry and we witness their ups and downs as stardom beckons

In addition to the well known Grammy award-winning song I’m Telling You I’m Not Going, the show also features musical numbers like Only The Beginning and Got To Be Good Times, amongst others.

The show will be directed by the highly experienced Casey Nicholaw, who has previously been behind the West End hit Spamalot The Musical. She has also made her mark on numerous other well known musicals, ensuring that she has the right touch to bring Dreamgirls to life in the West End.

So the hit Broadway show, which also found an audience as a well-received movie starring Beyoncé in 2006, finally lands in the capital and can be seen at the Savoy Theatre.
