An American in Paris

The Dominion Theatre, a venue that has hosted some of the most famous musicals of the West End over the decades, continues to attract attention with its latest offering from 2017.

The former home of We Will Rock You will now host An American In Paris, a transfer from Broadway that earned awards and praise when it played last year, and it will bring with it some wonderful songs and a story that has already won over audiences. Based on the Academy Award-winning 1951 Gene Kelly film of the same name, it has fans worldwide and is now introduced to a new generation of crowds.

Its story takes us to Paris in the years following the Second World War, where we meet Jerry Mulligan, a man who saw horrible things during the conflict and now finds himself in the city to start a new life. He has his sights set on painting, with friendship and romance also on his mind.

Along the way we witness some wonderful dance routines and hear classic musical numbers like I Got Rhythm, But Not For Me, I’ve Got Beginners Luck and I’ll Build A Stairway To Paradise, amongst many others.

The mentioned dance numbers provided the source of one of its Tony Award when the show was seen in the United States. It picked up the Best Choreography Award for Christopher Wheeldon, amongst the host of other deserved nods. Amongst the performers who starred in the production were Leanne Cope and Robert Fairchild, both of whom reprise their work in the West End production.

And now it is the turn of West End audiences to get a look-in as An American Paris runs at the Dominion Theatre.
